Detoxification typically takes 5-7 days. The withdrawal symptoms that arise can be very painful, nursing, clinical, psychiatric and medical supervision is on site. Our goal is to relieve symptoms while restoring circadian rhythm, hydration and nutrition.

Once patients are stable, they begin therapy in our rehab program. Each patient’s situation is different and your needs are evaluated to determine your length of stay in our program. What You Need To Know About Opioid Addiction

If you’ve spent any time watching the news over the past few years, you know that the United States is in the middle of an epidemic. In 2017, the US Department of Health and Human Services declared opioid addiction to be a public health emergency. In the following year, the Centers for Disease Control revealed that opioids are now killing as many Americans as guns. Moreover, we are learning the hard lesson that this disease affects people from all walks of life.

What Are Opioids?

Opioids are a broad group of pain-relieving drugs derived either from the opium poppy or created synthetically in a laboratory. The drugs work by acting on opioid receptors in the body, stifling signals of pain and boosting feelings of pleasure. Naturally-derived opioids, also known as opiates, include heroin, morphine, and codeine. The prescription drugs hydrocodone, oxycodone, and fentanyl are examples of synthetic opioids. Unfortunately, the same properties that make these drugs highly effective pain relievers also make them extremely addictive.

Who Suffers From Opioid Addiction?

The short answer is that we all do. A common stereotype holds that opioid addiction is most common among the very poor, who are thought to abuse the drugs to deal with the stress of poverty. Another stereotype is that opioid abuse is prevalent in those wealthy enough to indulge their whims without the fear of losing their employment. However, a study by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) shows that these notions are outdated. According to the CDC, heroin use in households making less than $20,000 per year and in households making more than $50,000 a year have increased at a similar rate (62% and 60% respectively). However, heroin use in households making between $20,000 and $50,000 has increased by 77%. Furthermore, those with opioid addictions are not the only ones who suffer. The disease reaches everyone from family and friends of those directly afflicted, to classmates and co-workers, to police, emergency, and hospital personnel.
